First day - opening ceremony
In the crowded facilities of the «Borak» cinema in Široki Brijeg tonight the 8th Mediterranean Film Festival was opened. After the opening ceremony, at 7 p.m., the first film, the drama «Iko's Destiny» was presented. The film was made in Široki Brijeg in 1933.

The audience also had the opportunity to see the first film in the competition, «The Lost Village», by the Spanish Director Manuel Jimenez, who arrived to Široki Brijeg yesterday.

At 9 p.m. the feature film «The Living and The Dead» was presented, and the Director Kristijan Milić announced the film and introduced it to the audience. Together with the Producers of the film mentioned, the projection was attended by the Minister of Sports and Culture of the BiH Federation Mr Gavrilo Grahovac, and the Mayor of Široki Brijeg Mr Miro Kraljević. The Minister of Culture of Republic of Croatia, Mr Božo Biškupić, sent a letter of excuse since particular obligations had prevented him to attend and open the ceremony, and he sent his best wishes and support to the Festival.

At 5 p.m. the program of «Focus on Croatia» was presented and the audience saw the best of Croatian animation and experimental film production within the last five years. The guests were entertained till late at «Park» Hotel by the Big Band Orchestra of the Mediterranean Film Festival. Due to the great interest, the film «The Living and The Dead» was shown once again at 11 p.m.
