TOVA - Greatest Hand, Worst Elbow
Damir Jelić / Croatia / 52' / 2024.
Synopsis

This is the first documentary about the world table tennis champion from Duga Resa, the legendary Antun Tova Stipančić. TOVA follows the journey of his life, from his birth in Duga Resa to his untimely passing. Eight contemporaries talk about the world’s most talented left-hander of all time - a man who won 27 European and World Championship medals. Testimonies come from world champion Istvan Jonyer, Olympic silver medalist Zoran Primorac, European champion Edvard Vecko, Yugoslav junior champion Mirko Grizo Rajčević, coaches Josip Trupković and Herman Vukušić, teammate and coach Zlatko Čordaš, and Tova’s brother, Marijan Majo Stipančić. The film is based on a difficult family situation and poverty, children's play, and the beauties of the Mrežnica River, which served as inspiration for a young boy’s dreams of conquering the world.
