Retrospective of MFF in Slavonski Brod
Mediterranean Film festival had its second retrospective in Slavonski Brod from 30th of March until 1st of April. The retrospective was held within the “Festival of New” (The first film festival of new countries). The retrospective was opened by short film “Infinite jest” by David Munoz from Spain. The film talks about unsolvable recession and crisis in the world and about infinite struggle to survive. The film made by the local authors followed, “SBROCK50” that talks about 50 years of rock ’n’ roll in Slavonski Brod. The first evening was closed by the film “Village without women” made by Bosnian-Herzegovinian director Srđan Šarenac. The film is about the complexity of life in the village and, because of the classical example of great directing that enables us complete identification with the characters and their problems, won the second prize at last year’s MFF. Short animated film “The Little Green Ridinghood” made by Vladimir Mikulić opened the second day of the Retrospective. It is the story of eternal fight between good and evil that happens in BiH, for which someone said: Where the reality ends, BiH begins.

Then followed the film by Spanish director Jo Graell “Odeon: Time stood still” that tells the story about the cinema Odeon, which might be the only place in the world where each show is unique. After that the last year’s winner of Mediterranean Film Festival, the Israeli documentary “Revolution 101” by Doron Tsabari, was screened. This film excellently illustrates the fight of the individual against the corrupted system and encourages all those who believe that the fight for realization of the noble causes is possible. Besides the Retrospective of MFF, a short film “Ante” was screened, which is realized by the Association of technical culture of the town of Slavonski Brod, and the film “Man in the cage” that is about a man that has been closed in a cage for 8 years. The director of the film is Ramadan Mucolli from Kosovo. The lovers of Citroën 2CV, aka spaček, could enjoy the film “The measure for distance is wandering” directed by Denis Čugura and Silvije Stilinović. The destiny of Mrs. Ferdana Cerkezi, who had her four sons and husband missing in the war, and hope to see them again alive was showed in film from Kosovo “The icon of tears” directed by Ilir Kabashi. The film “Generation Kuduz” directed by Martin Gerner was also screened. It’s a film about the misery and poverty and the dangers of everyday life.

The honour of closing the Retrospective went to the documentary “3 days” directed by Zdenko Jurilj from Široki Brijeg. The film is anout the events from 7th, 8th and 9th of May 1991 when the people stopped the colon of about hundred tanks of JNA at Polog between Mostar and Široki Brijeg. The team of SBFILM, which was the host and the organizer of the MFF Retrospective, prepared great combination of kulen, fish stew, flight with glider, paintball… And the guests from Široki Brijeg prepared Herzegovina evening with smoked ham and cheese from Livno.
