Ready for MFF? 'My Condolences' and 'Sisters' at the opening night
The 19th edition of the Mediterranean Film Festival will start with the screening of the documentary ‘Sisters’ directed by Zdenko Jurilj. The opening ceremony is starting at 21h in the open air cinema in the town centre, and before the Herzegovinian premiere of the ‘Sisters’ there will be the screening of the short film ‘My Condolences’, created at the MFF School workshop.

As Lucy Eagleson Ribich, the film workshops mentor, has pointed, this is the film that brings a ‘true Herzegovinian story put within a dark comedy frames’."The film is much more mature than our earlier works, and it is a story about two brothers who are trying to distribute money after their grandmother death,  resolve the succession proceedings, but come to a series of unforeseen situations, comic, of course", said Eagleson Ribich.

On the first festival day, at 19h in Borak Cinema there will be screening of  eight master pieces of BH cinematography, which were both the audience’s and the jury’s favourite at festivals all over the world at the time. This is cooperation with the Film Centre Sarajevo, which is carrying out the activity 'Preserve the film treasure of BH' in order to draw attention to the importance of preservation and digitalisation of the film materials.

The festival in Široki Brijeg will screen ‘Drina River Rafters’ directed by Živko Ristć, ‘Man without a Face’ by Bata Čengić, ‘How Bridges are Born’ by Bakir Tanović, ‘Two Laws’ directed by Vefik Hadžismajlović. Besides these MFF will also screen ‘Basement’ directed by Velimir Stojanović, ‘Facades’ by Suad Mrkonjić, ‘One Day in the Life of Rajko Maksim’ by Zlatko Lavanić and ‘The Mission of Ismet Kozica’  directed by Petar Ljubijev.The competition program starts at 23 h with the screening of the Spanish documentary ‘Tauromachy’, directed by Jaime Alekos and film ‘Babylonia my Love’, directed by Pierpaolo Verdecchi from Italy.  

The screenings of the films in competition, as well as the documentaries from the Film Centre Sarajevo will take place in the Cinema Borak hall. The opening ceremony, and films ‘Sisters’ and ‘My Condolences’ will take place in the open air cinema in the town centre, and due to a large interest for these films, the screenings will also take place in the Cinema Borak at the same time.General sponsor of the Mediterranean Film Festival is HT Eronet, and the festival is supported by the US Embassy in BiH and the Office of the EU Special Representative in BiH, among others. The festival is taking place from 22 to 25 August in Široki Brijeg.    

There are ten feature documentaries in the competition that will compete for the MFF Projector award, the ‘Grand Prix – Jack Daniel’s’, and short documentary films that compete for MFF Projector award ‘Best Short’. The audience will also choose the best film by their opinion and this one is wining the MFF Projector ‘Audience Award’.
