A new rhythm of festival life
After two decades, the Mediterranean Film Festival was "driven away" from the locations where the art of film was celebrated in Široki Brijeg and Herzegovina. It was driven to your homes, and the reason is known. Small, but yet big, because humankind is trembling, the virus does not allow the film to parade again in cinemas, festivals and on sets where it is being created. As in the cartoon Balthazar, a man works out everything. And one thought, it can be online, we are coming into your homes instead of you to our squares.How happy you will be, because you will not watch movies under the stars in our arrangement, but you are left to create projections by yourself, is not in our power. What we were able to do in this situation is to bring you an exceptional competition program again and masterpieces in the accompanying programs, all for free, but with little effort because you have to enter a password.
Somehow I feel that everyone will find a way to create a quality home theatre. The preparation of the online festival was not much different from the previous "normal" years, everything is the same, we just don't have guests and cinemas that require additional engagement of MFF associates, volunteers and professional technical staff. There is no film workshop for young people this year, which is one of the best in the region; it is online like the whole world of the education system.They must miss it because they want to create and I hope they will make a film on some agreed set with a small film crew with a mandatory distance.
Being responsible is the motto that follows us through the virus pandemic.Our jury will be responsible in awarding the prizes and recognitions to films and authors who have agreed to the online form of the festival. We are happy that we are still awarding the winners financially in the year of the blockade of the film industry, and in some way facilitate their further film creation.
We will get around this year, and what waits for us in the coming years is difficult to predict.I do not want black scenarios, I want us to return under the projector of the Borak cinema as soon as possible or under the starry sky of the open air festival cinema.I want to see the youth enjoying the hot Mediterranean August, in the festival square, filled with positive vibes. And yes, I want the Corona virus to escape from our posters and be banished to the past from all the world's front pages like any temporality.For all those in self-isolation or positive on Covid-19 I wish a quick recovery and follow the top quality program of the 21st Mediterranean Film Festival.Unfortunately, we will see each other only next year at the place where we parted last year with "see you next year".
