Festival is open: 'We are the smallest place with such a big production'
'We are the smallest place with such a big production’, Tomislav Topić said at the opening of the 24th edition of the Mediterranean Film Festival in Borak cinema, on Tuesday, October 10.

During the announcement of the screening of the feature film ‘Stigma’ Topić pointed out that this year’s festival is screening ten films from the ‘Home Authors’ program, seven of which come from Široki Brijeg.  ‘Film is a very complex art that combines many elements and this is a historical moment for our town considering that we are going to see the first feature fiction film created completely with domestic powers’, the festival director said and added that the organisers have put together a great program of 50 films.

After the ceremonial part the festival was opened with the screening of the feature film ‘Stigma’ directed by Zdenko Jurilj, from the ‘Home Authors’ program.

‘The film was made in guerrilla-like conditions, and thanks to the enthusiasm of my colleagues from Kadar production, and the team we gathered from the neighbouring countries. This is an atmospheric film, pure minimalism. The story is about tobacco smuggling, but the basic message is the meaning of revenge', Jurilj said.

In addition to this, from the program of 'Domestic authors' the festival will also screen 'Silent Drifter' a story about the great artist Virgilije Nevjestić, who was considered one of the greatest graphic artists of the 20th century in France.

In this program we are watching ‘Walls’ directed by Ivo Čolak and Marko Mikulić and the documentary ‘Sculptor from Grab’ about artist Stjepan Skoko, directed by Tomislav Topić. We are watching the documentaries ‘Speedy’ by Karmen Obrdalj, ‘Coffee Smuggling Routes’ by Mirko Pivčević, ‘The Night of Silver and Gold’ by Zdravko Terkeš and ‘Tomorrow is a New Day’ by Tvrtko Bubalo in the series of short films from this program. The festival is going to screen two animated films on the second day, these are ‘Purpose’ by Tvrtko Karačić and ‘Hope’ by Pero Petrušić.

In cooperation with Film Centre Sarajevo we are watching the masterpieces of B&H cinematography, and then there are documentaries from the 'In Focus' program and films for children in the ‘MFF Fora’ program.

The award ceremony will be held on Friday, October 13, while the festival will close on Saturday, October 14, with the screening of the documentary film about the basketball genius Dražen Petrović - 'Our Little Boy', directed by Ivana Guberina.

We remind you that the Mediterranean Film Festival takes place from October 10 to 14 in Široki Brijeg. The competition includes ten feature-length documentaries that compete for the MFF "Grand Prix" award, and ten short documentaries that compete for the MFF "Best Short" award. The best film will be chosen by the audience, and that film is waiting for the MFF Audience Award. This year’s novelty is the ‘Best Camera’ award that will be awarded by the festival in collaboration with the Association of Cinematographers of B&H.

The general sponsor of the Mediterranean Film Festival is HT Eronet.
