26th MFF ''In Focus'' Program: Climate crisis, lighthouses, portraits of people and cities
The Mediterranean Film Festival is going to present nine short documentary films from around the world in the 'In Focus' program, picked by the festival selector.

Slovenian director Gregor Božič in his film “Common Pear,” takes us to a not-too-distant future ravaged by climate crisis, where a team of scientists analyses archival footage of farmers from the past, in an attempt to understand their connection to the land.

In “Ana, June 15th 2024” Croatian filmmaker Jakov Benčić captures a busy day in the life of young Ana Nikšić, packed with fashion fittings, castings, flea markets, and nightlife.

An emotional story, “Rachel and Me”, directed by Hadar Yoselewitz, comes from Israel. After a romantic breakup, the author meets an 80-year-old jewellery designer and Holocaust survivor, Rachel Gera, whose life wisdom and creativity become a source of strength and comfort.

A Chinese-Greek coproduction, “Pulse of Chongqing“ shows the daily life of a metropolis with over 30 million people through a montage of shots from sunrise to sunset that capture the city’s spirit.

In her film “The Guiding Light”, Spanish director Cristina Rodriguez Paz pays an intimate and reflexive tribute to the last female lighthouse keepers and a way of life that’s becoming extinct.

Croatian director Toni Meštrović documents a year of the shutdown of the 3 May shipyard in Rijeka in his film "Silence", transforming the abandoned industrial space into a powerful image of social and economic void.

“Rigo” is a Spanish-Mexican film directed by Juan Hendel, which presents the life of Rigoberto, a Mexican who divides his time between carving animals in wood and slaughtering pigs, balancing between creation and destruction.

Montenegrin author Tamara Pavićević in the film "This is not Kika" presents a portrait of Svetozar Nikočević aka Kika - a tattooed old bodybuilder, a gentle giant with a difficult past, whom everyone knows, but no one really knows.

Goran Miličević's ''Reciting'' explores different styles of poetry interpretation - from the author himself to the audience, and artificial intelligence, which provokes unexpected reactions from previous interpreters.

The films from this selection are not in competition for awards, but they bring diverse poetics and fresh cinematic perspectives, emphasising the diversity of documentary expression in the contemporary world.

26th Mediterranean Film Festival, whose general sponsor is HT Eronet, is taking place from 7 to 11 October 2025, in Široki Brijeg.
