“Honey Bunny” and “Vijesnik – Last Edition” in 27 Mediterranean Film Festival OFF Program
The audience will have the opportunity to watch two interesting films: the feature film “Honey Bunny” and the documentary film “Vjesnik – Last Edition” in this year’s OFF program at the Mediterranean Film Festival.
Even though they belong to different genres and talk about seemingly distant topics, both films are connected by an interest in people, their relationships, and a society that is changing.
The film “Honey Bunny” tells the story of Tonina, the caring, assertive, and ambitious owner of an accounting firm where she employs her husband and daughter. Amidst all her business obligations, Tonina also takes care of her mother, who is bedridden and suffers from dementia.
Her younger sister Tajana and her family take a far more easygoing and less ambitious approach to life. The two sisters clash when Tonina secretly buys a share of their island family house from their cousin Željka, even though the sisters had agreed to buy it together. Through the story of two sisters, a family house, and different views on life, “Honey Bunny” opens up the issue of relationships between those closest to you, ambition, property, and family expectations.
The film stars Snježana Sinovčić-Šiškov, Aleksandra Janković, Ana Marija Veselčić, Dara Vukić, Mare Rodin, Šimun Šitum, Stojan Matavulj, Leon Lučev, Igor Jelinović, Marko Jerbić, and Katarina Bilan. The screenplay was written by Igor Jelinović, cinematography by Marko Jerbić, editing by Tomislav Stojanović, and the producer is Rea Rajčić. The film was produced by Eclectica.
“Honey Bunny” has already made a strong impression on the festival circuit. The film won the Best Film award at the Pula Film Festival, while Snježana Sinovčić-Šiškov was named Best Actress, Aleksandra Janković Best Supporting Actress, and Igor Jelinović received the award for Best Screenplay.
“Honey Bunny” will be screened as part of the OFF program on Friday, September 25, at 7 p.m. at the Open-Air Cinema.
On Saturday, September 26, the OFF program features the documentary “Vjesnik – The Last Edition”, a story about the fall of a journalistic giant, a single building, and a fundamentally transformed society. The documentary film goes beyond the boundaries of a classic chronicle about the closure of a legendary media outlet. At the heart of the film is the iconic Vjesnik skyscraper in Zagreb, the building that becomes a kind of mirror of society and time.
It is a profound, emotional, and analytical story about an era, two countries, and two completely different political systems. This documentary gives a voice to those who lived through, worked in, and co-created that time.
The screenplay was written by Dražen Klarić and Petra Balija. The cinematography was by Anđela Bučić and Matej Pavelić, and the editing was by Anđela Bučić. The producer is Petra Balija. The film was produced by Večernji list.
The film was screened at Rab Film Festival.
“Vjesnik” is scheduled for Saturday, September 26 at 7 p.m. in Borak Cinema.
The two films in the OFF programme offer contrasting yet equally intriguing stories: “Honey Bunny” explores family, relationships, and questions of inheritance, while Vjesnik looks at the media, architecture, and social change. Each film, in its own way, raises the question of how time transforms people, cities, and relationships we once believed would never change.
